The Lithuanian tradition started in 2008 when people wearing tacky sweaters put fake nutshells on their trees to ward off the spirits that might pass by on New Year’s Eve. It was originally called the “Funeral Tree” festival, but has now been renamed because of Norway’s copyright claim on
